Acid Reflux Disease Diet

There are some fast ways with medication to reduce heart burn, but you probably would like to stop for good this burning sensation and changing your diet is a great solution for some people.

GERD is gastroesphagical reflux disease is what this heartburn problem is called by some specialists. Altering your diet can reduce or even prevent acid reflux from happening.

Try to avoid eating foods that tend to relax the area of the esophagus that connects to the stomach. Usually this muscle remains closed tightly unless you had just swallowed. Certain foods cause this muscle to become relaxed allowing acid to escape causing heartburn.

Following a diet that reduces acid reflux is not that hard. You can eat most fruits, vegetables, meat products and even dairy products with only a few exceptions. For instance, some people notice a burning feeling in the chest area after eating an orange. If you are one of these people, substitute an orange with vitamin c and you should feel better and reduce the occurrence of heart burn problems.

Something that people do not realize that forcing air in the stomach can increase heart burn. The air forces the sphincter muscle above the stomach to expand which allows acidic liquid from the stomach to travel towards the throat. For instance, just by chewing gum you may be causing a burning sensation in your body. Eating candy that is hard can cause you to swallow excessively which allows more and more acid to escape.

Also, try to eat small meals so that the amount of acid needed to digest your stomach contents is small. Plus, after eating, avoid lying down since this allows the acid to travel back up the esophagus which causes the heartburn feeling.

Here is a short list to food to avoid in your diet that cause heartburn : peppermint, spearmint, oils, creamed soups, fast food, and whole milk.
